Loose, overweight thighs rub against each other, causing discomfort and irritation, or simply giving an unattractive, sagging appearance due to age or a significant change in weight.

In the case of excess skin on the inner thighs as a result of weight loss or age, a cruroplasty or ‘thigh lift’ may be offered, with or without liposuction, to correct the excess skin/fat and restore a harmonious figure.

What does a thigh lift in Paris involve?

A cruroplasty or ‘thigh lift’ in Paris is performed in cases of sagging skin on the inner thighs linked to :

  • natural ageing of the skin
  • significant sagging of the skin as a result of major weight changes (pregnancy, dieting, obesity-related operations), or
or poor skin retraction following liposuction.
  • A thigh lift removes the excess skin responsible for the sagging appearance of the inner thighs.

This procedure is often combined with liposuction of excess subcutaneous fat. Liposuction increases skin slackening, so more skin can be removed for a better final aesthetic result.

How do I prepare for a thigh lift in Paris?

Two to three consultations are necessary to define a surgical plan in collaboration with the patient. This is a privileged moment of exchange that enables us to understand the problems encountered by the patient and to grasp his or her expectations in terms of results.

The consultation also provides an opportunity to analyse the patient’s body to ensure that a thigh lift is specifically indicated for him or her. It will also be determined whether the thigh lift should be accompanied by liposuction or any other complementary procedure, or whether the patient has any contraindications to this procedure. It should be noted that the patient must have a stable weight (both before and after the operation) with a BMI < 30, in order to achieve a satisfactory and lasting result over time.

Finally, the consultation provides an opportunity to explain to the patient the precise course of the operation, to take photographs that will be used to simulate the results of the operation in order to be as close as possible to the patient’s expectations, and also to provide recommendations to be applied before and/or after the operation, in particular stopping smoking one month before and after the operation (and other medical treatments such as anticoagulants and aspirin), or temporarily suspending certain sporting activities.

Healing after a thigh lift

Depending on the location and extent of the excess skin/fat, various discreet scars are possible:

  • a horizontal scar hidden in the groyne fold (when the operation only concerns the upper part of the thigh)
  • a vertical scar concealed in the inner thigh (when the operation concerns excess skin over all or a large part of the thigh)
  • a mixed scar concealed in the groyne fold and on the inner thigh.

The thigh lift is performed on an outpatient basis or in a short hospital stay (1 night), under general anaesthetic.

Thigh lift or cruroplasty

What are the after-effects of a cruroplasty or thigh lift?

The result is immediate: the thighs are slimmer and firmer as soon as you leave the operating theatre. Swelling and bruising of varying degrees appear following the operation. Pain is moderate.

The patient and/or a qualified nurse will wash the scars daily.

Healing is achieved in three weeks. Compression tights should be worn for 4 to 6 weeks. Two weeks’ rest is recommended. Sport is not recommended for 1 to 2 months.

The final result will be obtained after one year, to allow the oedema to disappear completely and the scars to fade.

What are the risks of a cruroplasty?

As with any surgical procedure, complications such as infection, anaesthesia or haematomas may occur.

Rarely occurring, they may require monitoring if they are small or evacuation if they are larger.

Infrequent, they may require antibiotic treatment as well as drainage and surgical lavage.

What is the cost of a thigh lift?

The procedure may be covered by the Assurance Maladie and your mutual insurance company, subject to prior agreement issued by the Assurance Maladie’s medical officer.

Coverage will depend on the extent of excess skin and in the event of massive weight loss.

Frequently asked questions

As with any surgical procedure, complications such as infection, anaesthesia or haematoma may occur. They are not specific to this operation but are common to all surgery performed under general anaesthetic.

Haematomas: these are rare, but may require monitoring if they are small or evacuation if they are larger.

Infections: these are uncommon, but may require antibiotic treatment, drainage and surgical lavage.

When the patient has excess skin and/or fat on the inner and outer thighs, conventional cruroplasty is not enough to correct the overall shape of the thighs. It is advisable to combine cruroplasty with an external thigh lift and/or liposuction in order to harmonise the patient’s overall figure.

The result of the operation is visible as soon as you leave the operating theatre, and will become more definitive once the oedema has disappeared, i.e. 1 to 2 months after the operation, depending on the patient.

The result is truly definitive one year after the operation, when the oedema has completely disappeared and the scars have faded as much as possible.

The result of the operation is long-lasting, even if it is inevitably affected by the natural effects of time and gravity. Apart from this, it can only be altered by rapid significant weight changes, which should therefore be avoided. It is for this reason that, at the time of the consultation, the patient should have a stable weight.
