Facial rejuvenation injections: what are the options?

Dr Arie Azuelos' blog in Paris

Facial rejuvenation has become standard practice in aesthetic medicine, offering less invasive solutions for a rejuvenated and revitalised appearance. Among these solutions, injections play a major role, offering visible and often immediate results.

What is facial rejuvenation?

Facial rejuvenation refers to a range of aesthetic treatments designed to reduce the signs of ageing on the face. The aim is to restore a more youthful appearance by reducing wrinkles, improving skin volume and texture, and enhancing facial contours. These procedures can range from non-invasive methods to more complex surgical interventions.

What injections are used to rejuvenate the face?

For facial rejuvenation, several types of injections are possible, each targeting specific issues and offering distinct results.

Botox, or botulinum toxin

Botox, scientifically known as botulinum toxin, is a leading treatment for smoothing dynamic wrinkles, those that form as a result of repeated facial expressions. The toxin works by temporarily relaxing the muscles of the face, reducing wrinkles such as crow’s feet around the eyes, horizontal lines on the forehead and frown lines between the eyebrows. Botox is particularly appreciated for its rapid action and visible results, which give the face a more rested and rejuvenated appearance. The effects of botox generally last from 4 to 6 months, and regular sessions are recommended to maintain the results and prevent the formation of new wrinkles.

Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a filler that is highly prized for its volumising and moisturising properties. This substance, naturally present in the skin, plays an essential role in maintaining skin hydration and elasticity. As an aesthetic treatment, hyaluronic acid is used to fill in hollow areas such as the nasolabial folds (the wrinkles that extend from the nose to the corners of the mouth), increase the volume of the lips for a fuller, more defined appearance, and enhance the cheekbones for a more sculpted, youthful facial contour. The durability of the effects of hyaluronic acid varies according to the density of the product used and the treatment area, with results lasting from 12 to 18 months. Hyaluronic acid injections have an immediate rejuvenating effect, giving the face a visible radiance and freshness.

Follow-up: what are the concrete results of injections?

After the injections, follow-up is essential to assess the results. Patients can see immediate effects with some products, although the final result may take a few days to appear, particularly with botulinum toxin. Slight swelling or bruising may occur and usually disappears quickly. Patients are advised on home care, such as avoiding direct sun exposure and strenuous physical activity immediately after the injections. Regular follow-up ensures that results are in line with expectations, and allows us to plan any maintenance sessions needed to prolong the effects of facial rejuvenation.
